Project title: ANTITUMORAL EFFECT OF PROBIOTIC BACTERIA IN COLON CANCER

Project number: PN II 52-160

Acronym: PROBIOCOL

Abstract:

Fermented dairy products contain probiotic bacteria, capable of rebalancing the intestinal flora through anti-inflammatory and antitumoral mechanisms and they also have beneficial effects on human health. Thus, we investigate the effect of these probiotic bacteria as well as that of other selected strains in colon cancer by comparing in vitro studies (cell cultures) with in vivo ones (fermented milk). We track the cellular bacterial adhesion mechanisms to the colon epithelial cells, modifications in pro- and anti-inflammatory marker expressions in normal and tumoral cell cultures: adenoma 1cm, ADK operated.
